USS S-26 (SS-131) was the third United States submarine lost in the Second World War. She lies in the Gulf of Panama about 14 miles west of the San Jose Light in three hundred feet of water. PC-460, escorting, struck S-26 on the starboard side of the torpedo room on 24JAN42 and the submarine sank within a few seconds. Forty-six brave submariners gave their lives. She'll be making no more homeport calls, having been on her Eternal Patrol now for 63+ years. Toll the Bell..........
