From the Sea to the Stars: Chapter 2 - Chapter 2: Satellites for Strategic Defense, 1961­1970; a U.S. Navy Historical Center page. The equipments were of three types: AN/BRN-3, for use in U.S. submarines. This system was deployed in all U.S. strategic (SSBN ballistic missile) submarines and tactical (SSN attack) submarines. AN/SRN-9, for use in surface ships. This system was deployed in U.S. and allied navy surface ships. Transit Simplified (TRANSIM). Less accurate than the AN/BRN-3 or AN/SRN-9, but still accurate enough for most maritime users, this system was produced commercially (eventually by at least 26 different manufacturers).
